President Uhuru Kenyatta has dispatched flamboyant Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko to try and salvage the dwindling fortunes in the Malindi by-election. Jubilee fortunes have been on a downward spiral in the Coast region in what locals term as blatant neglect by successful regimes since independence, the historical injustices in a key grievance by the locals.
Jubilee’s third in command, Parliament Majority leader Hon Aden Duale has literally camped in Malindi to no much success and thus Statehouse was convinced Hon Mike Sonko may ignite the base with his coastal roots (Senator Sonko was born and raised up in Mombasa).
The Statehouse operatives are convinced the senator may salvage situation with an aim of losing decently. Hon Duale was recently quoted saying it was difficult for Jubilee candidate Mr Charo to get even 40%.
Mike Sonko speaks the local language, he understands much of the local problems than any other outsider, besides Sonko is a pleasant personality and locals seem to be receptive of him said Mzee Tsuma
Mike Sonko has changed strategy and is holding several caucus meeting accross the constituency with various interest groups.
