Ugunja soars higher as a model constituency in Luo Nyanza
This coming Friday, one of the most progressive and transformative ODM Members of Parliament, Ugunja’s Opiyo Wandayi, plays hosts to three Principal Secretaries in his Constituency for a series of launches of development projects.
The government delegation is visiting Ugunja to officially launch two major water projects, as well as preside over disbursement funds to youth and women groups.
The Lower Ambira Water Projects at Raduodi Primary School and St Elizabeth MaSSUUN will supply the outlying Lower Ambira communities with clean water, resulting to increased number of households enjoying water security.
On the same day, the MP and his guests will preside over the the fifth disbursement to 29 women groups, 2 youth groups and 2 Saccos who are expected to receive a total of Ksh6.72 million for use in various income generating projects.
Suffice to say, Ugunja Constituency ranks highly nationally in terms of performance of Uwezo loans uptake, utilisation and repayment, with 281 youth, women and sacco groups having cumulatively received a total of Sh30 million since 2014.
Since Hon Wandayi took over the Constituency in 2013 which was curved out of the larger Ugenya previously represented by Hon James Orengo, new intra-constituency tarmac roads have been constructed, hospitals upgraded, new schools and colleges established and major water projects started.
There is something transformative after all going on in rural Nyanza worth emulating.
