Embakasi East MP Babu Owino’s shooting incident brought more problems for the likes of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri.
The B-Club drama painted a whole new image of the embattled Babu who was charged with attempted murder on DJ Evolve.
Inspector-General of Police Hilary Mutyambai cracked the whip after the incident that caused a major uproar from Kenyans.
Mutyambai directed that politicians who are gun holders and facing criminal charges, would have their firearm certificated cancelled.
Aside from politicians, the tough-talking police boss remarked that VIP personnel will be subjected to the same measure.
Tightening the knot on the issue, the IG noted that State security would be withdrawn from the public officials until their cases in court are settled.
Ngunjiri became the first leader to be affected by the order after his firearm was confiscated while being interrogated as reported by a local daily.
The vocal Tanga Tanga MP pointed out that he was being targeted and harassed because of his political stand against President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“For all years I have stayed with this gun I have never been accused of any offence because I am a law-abiding citizen,” stated the Bahati MP.
He added that “They have started harassing anyone who is not singing their tune. This country is going back to the dark days.
Others set to face the same fate include Kuria, Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and Bobasi MP Innocent Obiri.
Kuria and Jumwa are the two who would face the brunt of the law as they are facing assault and murder charges respectively.
Obiri was accused of incitement and destruction of property when a fracas ensued at a quarry in Kisii.
Waititu and his counterparts Migori Governor Okoth Obado and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, are set to mainly feel the pinch of not having government protection which they have enjoyed since taking power.
Unlike Obado, the two Jubilee party member’s are both facing corruption charges which according to Police Spokesperson Charles Owino, is classified as a criminal offence under the Penal Code.
Despite past measures against such leaders, the big question remains whether this new move will last or is a strategy to just fool Kenyans.
