Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s top ally and lead groundsman Ahmed Papa’s declaration that he will seek the mandate of Langata residents to represent them in Parliament come 2017 was received with excitement. Ahmed is a steadfast ODM and Raila supporter since 2006 and played key role as Chairman of YKR07 (Young Kenyans for Raila) in 2007 and Chaired VINARA (Vijana Na Raila) in 2013 presidential campaigns as a lead mobiliser and ground strategist.
The youthful Ahmed holds a Bachelor Of Business Administration degree from the prestigious University of Pretoria in South Africa, he is a leading businessman with interests in commodities & IT Business Solutions.
Commanding great respect amongst his peers, the emerging youth leaders and ODM top brass Ahmed is a well known ODM operative and associated with top political handlers (code name ‘Luminaries’) especially those that worked directly under the ODM Pentagon members in 2007, the famous ODM Pentagon brought together Prime Minister Raila Odinga, DP William Ruto, ex VP Musalia Mudavadi, CS Najib Balala and Hon Joe Nyaga.
The current Langata MP has performed dismally and thus the excitement among the ODM base in the city. Ahmed will square it with Jubilee candidate yet to be unveiled. In 2013 TNA failed to abide by an agreement with URP that had zoned off the constituency as a URP stronghold. The battle for Nairobi will be waged in Langata especially after DP Ruto urged Kalenjins in the city to register in numbers to win the coveted seat. Langata remains one of ODMs safest seats.
The soft spoken and straight shooting Ahmed grew up in Nairobi’s South C estate, he is close to almost all top CORD politicians including Prof Kalonzo, Prof Nyong’o, Ababu Namwamba, James Orengo, Evans Kidero, governor Amason King, Governor Joho, Senator Ongoro, senator Omar Hassan and all Nairobi Politicians including Hon Ndolo, Mayor Aladwa, Hon Simba, Hon Ken Okoth among others. He has a huge following among the ODM youth, he is a straight talker and never entertains bullshit in party matters.
