There was shock and drama at Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday morning, when police stunned judicial officers by framing up charges against EALA MP Simon Mbugua.
Police stunned the court when they preferred robbery with violence charges against Mbugua and two others, over the attack against former NCBDA Chair Timothy Muriuki.
Police claim Muriuki who is of late in deep financial crisis, lost Sh100,000 during the incident at Boulvard Hotel last month, where goons attacked him before he delivered his statement in support of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Mbugua and two others appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Mutku and pleaded not guilty. Lawyer Cliff Ombeta who is representing the MP in the case has appealed to the court to grant the legislature free bond.
The court is set to issue a ruling on the bond application this afternoon at 2:00pm.
According to officers from the DPP’s office, the charges against Mbugua and the two others are surprising since according to Muriuki’s OB number 10/30/4/2018 at Central Police station, the former NCBDA Chair only lost his speech, a pen and some coins when goons who are still at large attacked him.
There will be no evidence linking EALA MP Simon Mbugua to the crime for which he has been arrested. The IG should stop hoodwinking us and arrest the culprits seen in broad daylight, in respect of whom he offered a hefty bounty.
