Weekends, I buy both Nation and Standard. I am tired with Philip Ochieng’ obsession with Standard. Surely there are numerous errors in Nation that he can use to correct and guide on proper use of English language. It is a policy of Nation to use competition to correct poor English usage? There should be mutual respect so Nation should desist from carrying on with this column that appears to be attacking competition. I doubt it increases Nation’s circulation.
This is the Nation that thinks Dr Kones and Dr Joyce Laboso are vying in Kericho! That is in today’s front page. We are struggling to make learners not to confuse counties and know Bomet is not Kericho; Kisii is not Nyamira; Siaya in not Kisumu but Nation is leading in misleading learners. I have seen on-line Nation talking about Kisumu ODM aspirants threatening to ditch ODM. You go to the story and the intro tells you the aspirants are from Siaya.
It is enough for Nation to serve as Jubilee Communication Centre but it doesn’t mean it should lie about obvious administration facts. As Nation is busy lying, Standard has relaunched itself and even for a cynic like me, it is difficult not to appreciate the efforts that has gone to improve the content and design. Super job.
