Police are investigating an incident in which one of the bodyguards attached to Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko was shot dead and robbed of his gun in an attack at Mwiki, Nairobi.
The officer was shot in the forehead and died while undergoing treatment at the Nairobi Hospital on Saturday. Bakari Tsuma had dropped Sonko in Gigiri area on Friday midnight and left for his residence in Mwiki area where he met his death.
Sonko and police said the officer was shot by three people who were armed with an AK47 rifles and pistols.
Police say they are yet to arrest those behind the murder and robbery. On his part, Sonko said he felt his life is in danger after the killing of the father of four.
He said the attackers seemed experts and were on a mission and urged for thorough investigations to get them. Sonko has declared interest in vying for Nairobi gubernatorial seat.
“We want to know how and why my bodyguard was killed. These seem to be professional people on a mission,” he said.
The body of the officer was flown to Kwale on Sunday for burial. The killing of the officer is the second in a week in Nairobi. Another officer was killed last week in Dandora area. Police say they are looking for the gangs that are behind the incidents.
