Kisii’s longest serving member of parliament (since 1983) who is also the current senator Hon Chris Obure has sent signals that he is dumping ODM for Uhuru’s Jubilee coalition as he eyes the Kisii county governor seat in 2017.
Senator Obure will join Charles Nyachae, CS Matiangi, Hon Jimmy Angwenyi and Hon Omingo Magara as the Jubilee team joint team captains for Kisii region
Three other MPs incuding Kitutu South’s Hon Richard Onyonka, Nyamira senator Okongo Mongare and EALA’s Joseph Kiango are en-route to Jubilee.
Here are some of the reasons given why they are moving to Jubilee:
1. Senator Obure a close ally of CORD leader Raila Odinga since his days as Gor Mahia footbal club star is alleged to have been promised by top statehouse operatives that the Goldenberg corruption case he is facing will be extinguished (terminated) and will also receive campaign funding for his Kisii gubernatorial bid.
“Hon Obure is just fighting his own battle, he has a corruption case hanging on his neck, at 74 years of age and the good senator is planning for his retirement and therefore Jubilee cash comes easy” said Onyinkwa Kebaso a Kisii based political pundit
2. Hon Richard Onyonka; he is doing his 2nd term in parliament having been elected in 2007. Hon Onyonka has been flirting with Ann Waiguru and managed to get NYS do projects in his constituency. Onyonka is said to be ever broke after running down his father’s business empire. He has several kids to cater others born in a far a way lands as USA. He simply needs Jubilee cash.
3. Senator Okongo Mongare; a fairly descent and modest man, with a lean family BUT with some buggage somewhere is defecting mainly because he knows he will lose unopposed, former LSK Chairman senior counsel Okongo Omogeni is hot favorite and will be flying the ODM flag. Hon Mongare will better jump to Jubilee, get campaign funding so as to avoid eating into his thin networth… makes sense.
4. Hon Joseph Kiangoi: He is the current ODM nominee to the EALA parliament in Arusha, he is a close ally to Oburu Odinga BUT is ready to coil to his old KANU networks. He was elected as North Mugirango constituency in 1997 on KANU ticket and went on to be assistant minister. Hon Kiangoi is un-electable and therefore planning for his retirement. Hon Kiangoi is 70 years old.
Others to benefit include
Charles Nyachae who is tagged for Senate speaker position while CS Matiangi is expected to retain his position the cabinet.
