KASARANI MP hon MERCY WANJIKU GAKUYA is in big trouble after IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati said it will be almost impossible to carry out a boundaries delimitation exercise before next year’s General Election.
Kasarani constituency where Gakuya is the area Member of Parliament is among the densely populated constituencies that were expected to be divided for fair representation. It has a population of more than 400,000 people.
According to political pundits, Ms Gakuya is expected to lose her seat owing to her poor perfomance. Kasarani residents especially those from upper Kasarani including Mwiki, Clay City and Kasarani wards say they expected more from her but she performed below expectations.
Sources say hon Gakuya concentrated more on developing Ruai Ward because she was sure Kasarani would be divided into two or three, leaving her with the expected Ruai Constituency where she commands.
Critics say hon Mercy totally ignored the people of Mwiki, Kasarani and and Clay City Wards yet they are the reason why she clinched Kasarani because they wanted change.
According to residents of the above mentioned wards, Ms Gakuya has a tendency of hijacking the ongoing projects by the County and national governments to make them appear as if they are her own. Consequently, she fools unsuspecting residents and takes credit.
According to the electoral commission boss, IEBC had scheduled to complete the exercise in 2024, raising doubts on the implementation of proposals in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) driven constitutional changes, among them creation of 70 new constituencies.
The announcement by IEBC to demark boundaries of constituencies like Kasarani drives the last nail on Ms Gakuya’s political career coffin since she has no time left to make amends. It is said the aggrieved residents of upper Kasarani have vowed to kick her out during the 2022 general elections.
