Whilst devolution created two levels of government, the new dispensation completely overlooked provision of adequate funding to the cities of Kenya.
It is in this regard that the 5 largest cities of Kenya are pursuing an initiative aimed at addressing this gap.
I was glad to host the Governors of the 3 largest cities namely Nairobi and Kisumu and the Deputy Governor of Eldoret and Hon. Eugene Wamalwa CS Ministry of Devolution and ASALs, during the Kenya Cities Forum held at the Nyali Beach Resort.
Indeed there existed a funding gap for infrastructure development and other service sectors for the large cities from the onset of devolution.
It is through this initiative that we look to achieve sustainable funding for our cities moving into the future.
