Kisii men are known for being overly temperamental. They lose their tempers at the slightest provocation and react dangerously, fatally even. They do not issue empty and cowardly threats. When a Kisii man lifts his machete to slash someone it must land on the intended target. No retreat no surrender.
Kisii men are quite enterprising. In fact they are surpassing the Kikuyus as far as wealth creation and ownership is concerned. They have taken over the matatu industry. Their foray into property ownership is fast and furious.
They own land and property in Ruai, Ongata Rongai, Ngong, Syokimau, Athi River and Kitengela: threatening to upstage the Kikuyus who have the advantage of producing three Presidents.
They have a herd mentality. A Kisii settles in a place and immediately invites fellow Kisiis to come and buy property in the locality. Even in slums there are exclusive areas populated by Kisiis. They have Kisii village in Fuata Nyayo slums in South B as a good example of this mentality.
In such areas where they and Luos are the majority, crime is non existent. Thieves, burglars and other petty criminals are tracked down, set upon with blows, kicks and stones before being necklaced with tyres and burnt beyond recognition. Suspected witches suffer the same fate.
Like Luhyas, Kisiis like firm handshakes, unlike our Kamba brothers. The handshakes metamorphose into a show of strength and resilience where they pull and push and attempt to bend each other’s hand to see which one will collapse. Disclaimer: Don’t try this on muthokoi and waru eating folks!
Their love for sex is legendary. It is said that even if the bed collapses while in the act a Kisii will continue pounding the woman relentlessly and voraciously, unperturbed and oblivious of the pain occasioned by the fall. No wonder Kamba girls love them. It is not because there is plenty of food in Kisii land.
They are known for dipping their fingers in other men’s honey comb. The night guards are notorious for seducing their neighbors’ wives. A Kisii watchman will share a house with another watchman but with alternating working hours so that when one is at work the other is in the house and vice versa. The problem comes when the wife of the one on night shift visits. Your guess is as good as mine!
