Citizen TV news anchor, Francis Gachuri, was talking about the raid of suspected drug lord, Ali Punjani, that took place in Mombasa on Monday night, when he decided to use Maya Angelou’s quote.
“Maya Angelou, an American singer, writer, civil activist captured this perfectly in one of her legendary quotes. Let me read that quote,” he stated as he started looking through papers for the quote.
Gachuri found the raid to be a public relations stunt which would not bare any truth.
“Without courage, we cannot practice any other virtue, with consistency, we can’t be kind, true, merciful, generous or honest,” read the quote.
The news anchor divulged that he had very little knowledge of drug busting or such complex security operations. However, he noted that anytime a raid is publicised, it would be a perfect tip-off to the would-be suspects.
He went ahead and compared the Punjani situation to the Akasha case, that was taken up by the US, stating that the latter’s investigation was discrete, methodical, concise, precise and the outcome was too clear for the world to see.
“If the government was clear in combating the drugs cartel, it would. Drug peddlers are known in towns and villages. Their suppliers are also known and so are the lords,”
