Kenyans are shocked after Police arrested Fidel Odinga self confessed killer businessman Paul Kobia and later released without recording statement.
Later, Police offered contradicting information with Nairobi CID boss confirming businessman Paul Kobia was arrested and taken to Gigiri police station for questioning WHILE the Inspector General of Police issued a signed statement dismissing CID boss’ version of story and instead saying Mr Kobia was taken to police by his family….
On the other hand Kobia’s friend Nairobi senator Mike Sonko claimed it was his security detail that arrested Kobia>>>
Question is>>> WHICH version of story should Kenyans believe? that of Sonko, Nairobi CID boss or Inspector general of Police??
It is obvious that Kobia is getting protection from ‘above’ the contradicting police statements speak volumes!!
Here is HOW the STANDARD reported the story>>>
Controversial businessman Paul Kobia was Thursday arrested, disarmed and rushed to a police station before being moved to hospital.
Kobia was arrested outside Village Market by police seconded to Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko after allegedly causing a stir and shouting what officials termed as “crazy and wild†things.
Police later said Kobia had a mental problem. He was arrested at about 8 am. Nairobi head of CID Nicholas Kamwende confirmed Kobia had been arrested and taken to the Gigiri Police Station before being moved to hospital for “mental problemsâ€. “Kobia has a mental problem and we have now transferred him to hospital.
He has made many claims which are baseless for now because we think he has mental issues,†said Kamwende.
However, acting Inspector General of Police Samuel Arachi said Kobia was not arrested. “We want to clarify that Mr Kobia was taken to Gigiri Police Station by his family who wanted to be assisted in having him restrained and escorted to a psychiatrist after he started shouting incoherently and acting violently,†said Arachi.
On his part, Sonko said Kobia had caused a stir at the popular shopping centre by shouting what he termed wild allegations about him and the late Fidel Odinga. “He was arrested after he kept shouting my name and he claimed to know how Fidel Odinga died. Let him let Fidel rest in peace. We have handed him to the police who say he has a mental problem,†said Sonko.
Sonko said they were also searching his cars for more guns. He added they also confiscated a siren found in one of Kobia’s cars and handed it to police. “He has been invoking my name and that of the president whenever he messed up in the city. I am not part of his problems and that should be known,†said Sonko.
We could not get a comment from Kobia by the time of going to press. Witnesses said they saw police in plain clothes pounce on Kobia before they bundled him into a waiting car and drove off.
Police spokeswoman Ziporah Mboroki said they suspect Kobia had “run mad†and had to be taken to hospital for check-up. “He was taken to the police station before being moved to hospital because we think he has run mad,†said Mboroki.
Kobia has been moving in the city in a convoy of vehicles with some fitted with sirens. Officials said they are also investigating how he owns a gun. This was after his gun was confiscated when he was involved in a shooting incident along Limuru Road, Nairobi over an alleged robbery attempt in October 2014.
Kobia, who is man named in a UN report over Congo Gold smuggling claims, shot dead a robbery suspect along Parklands’ Limuru Road in a botched robbery. Police said the suspect had allegedly snatched his phone, a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 valued at Sh74,000 as he drove in a traffic jam
