Court upholds Mwashetani win in Lunga Lunga

November 27, 2013

Appeals Court sitting in Mombasa has upheld the election of Lunga Lunga MP Khatib Mwashetani. The Ford Kenya MP had lost his election after the High court nullified his win citing irregularities during the March 4 elections.

On Saturday, CORD leader Raila Odinga was in Kwale drumming up support for Mwashetani in a function where an MP urged Odinga to rein in errant governors of the coalition.

“We cannot afford to lose this seat because doing so will mean that our coalition and myself in particular I am losing my grip of stronghold,” said Odinga.

Kwale Governor Salim Mruyve had boycotted the event.

The race was  between TNA candidate Benson Mutisya, Ford Kenya’s Khatib Mwashetani, URP’s Omar Zonga, Abdallah Ngozi (Kenya National Congress) and Saidi Mwadzaya (Federal Party).

The by election is effectively nullified.
