Deputy President William Ruto has repeated his stance that he believes Mt. Kenya will support him in 2022 thus has no plans to support CORD leader Raila Odinga in 2017.
Over the weekend, in a charged meeting at his official residence in Karen, the Deputy President said he is the brain behind JAP which is meant to ensure all Mt. Kenya votes are in one basket by the time President Uhuru ends his 2nd term.
Kalenjins have been putting pressure on him to ‘return home’, saying he is not assured of the 2022 support when President Uhuru exists.
A speaker during the meeting told the DP to not forget that by the time President Kibaki ended his second term, no Kikuyu wanted to listen to him and his candidate for Othaya constituency lost in the 2013 election to Mary Wambui.
“It was a protest vote, how can you imagine these people will still be listening to Uhuru?”
However, the DP downplayed the fears, indicating that sticking with Uhuru will ensure Kalenjins are close to power till 2022, something that he said is not the case with supporting Raila.
“Let me clear the air on this issue of URP and Jubilee and the 2017 elections. I am now somewhat mature in politics, I have organized politics with [former President Daniel arap] Moi then the other one [ODM] in 2007. I am the one who registered JAP,” Ruto said.
“In 2017, we will vote for Uhuru because we are in government now and we will be assured of being in government again. This is what we must tell our people,” Ruto said.
