UHURU appoints another LUHYA female loyalist to head Moi University AFTER Degree Award

September 19, 2013

President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Miriam Were to replace veteran historian Prof Bethwel Allan Ogot as the Chancellor of Moi University.

Ms Were, a fierce Kenyatta loyalist, assumes office at a time when the president has been making Mt Kenya appointments and rewarding those who supported his disputed presidential win in the March 4 polls. She becomes the second senior Luhya woman to be appointed by Kenyatta after Judy Wakhungu, the environment secretary

The public health worker, who for a long time worked as a secondary school biology and chemistry teacher, will head the Eldoret-based institution that has today awarded Kenyatta an honorary degree under unclear circumstances.

President Kenyatta who is facing crimes against humanity at The Hague for his suspected role during the 2007 post-election violence, has also announced the appointment of John Mututho, who was resoundingly rejected by voters of Naivasha constituency, to be the chair of Nacada.

The president’s deviant nomination of Kiragu wa Magochi, a man who had been rejected by members of parliament, as the Teachers Service Commission chairman, also hangs in the balance the National Assembly may for the second time reject him over the more qualified Dr Nzomo of KIE.
