Deputy President William Samoei Ruto’s legal team has named several people in his legal defence at the ICC. However, while in Kenya, the Deputy President has conveniently hidden these names from the public, always putting the spotlight on the opposition ODM especially its leader Raila Odinga.
The names are entirely officials who worked either for PNU or for President Mwai Kibaki. Many of them still work under President Uhuru Kenyatta, some in as high places as state house.
They include lawyers Kamotho Waiganjo, currently a member of the Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution, Njenga Mwangi, Peter Maundu and George Morara, who was in the Vijana na Kibaki lobby group.
According to  Ruto defence, the lawyers and government officials who identified witnesses to present to the Waki Commission were assisted by former Assistant Minister Stephen Tarus, Abraham Limo, Bethwell Ruto and William Rono.
Ruto’s counsel Shyamala Alagendra has also often linked then Interior Principal Secretary Mutea Iringo, Senior Political Adviser to the President Nancy Gitau and former Justice Minister Martha Karua to the scheme to indict DP Ruto.
In President Kibaki’s government, Gitau served as Director of Political Affairs in the Office of the President while Iringo was Deputy Permanent Secretary, Internal Security.
