President Uhuru boycotted a rally at a venue prepared by Senate Mojority leader Kithure Kindiki and instead went straight to another venue organized by Senator Kiraitu Murungi as the political supremacy wars between the two Meru leaders played in the open.
Kindiki, seen as an acolyte of Deputy President William Ruto, has been on the receiving end lately following his elevation as a Njuri Ncheke elder. Kindiki has indicated that he intends to ask the Mt. Kenya to support him as Deputy President when Mt Kenya region is expected to support Ruto for President in 2022.
Kiraitu, an old hand in politics, insists he is the de facto kingpin of the Ameru and the ability to arm-twist the ever strategic President Uhuru has shown the Meru senator is still no pushover.
Interestingly, the Kindiki rally was well planned including the presence of heavily armed security personnel and the president Uhuru’s flag flying. Kindiki was forced to jump into a chopper to rush to the Kiraitu rally, arriving moments before it officially ended.
