We the officials of the ODM from Nairobi County are perturbed by recent utterances attributed to the Governor of Kiambu County Hon. William Kabogo with regard to male circumcision and the threats to the CORD leadership.
The remarks he made in Kiambu town during the launch of popular Gikuyu musician John De’Mathews newest song, issuing threats to the leader of ODM and CORD the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga are unfortunate and uncalled for, considering his status in society.
In-fact, it is irresponsible for Mr. Kabogo to refer to Mr. Odinga as a person with ‘ujinga’ (nonsense) when he is supposed to be preaching cohesion to the people he governs.
Mr. Kabogo is a leader, elected by hundreds of thousands of the people of Kiambu County which is a cosmopolitan area by virtue of its geographical location. As the Governor he ought to provide leadership.
We are aware that Mr. Kabogo is one of the Governors with the least development conscience in the country. Infact, his popularity in Kiambu County has diminished at an alarming rate because of his inability to govern and a lack of leadership skills. Leadership is not about flamboyance and show-off as Mr. Kabogo is trying to do, it is about serving people with humility and counting successes.
An attack on Mr. Odinga and his privacy was stooping too low. His utterances were proof enough that he has too little substance between his ears. That was an attack on the many communities that don’t practice some cultures.
A year ago, Mr. Kabogo confessed to the public how he stole NARC Party Leader Mrs. Charity Ngilu’s handbag in Kasarani during one of Jubilee Alliance’s meetings. That alone tells you the kind of person he is, no wonder the Kiambu County MCAs are plotting to oust him for incompetence.
The casual manner with which the government is treating Mr. Kabogo’s case is wanting. The law must not be applied selectively and with vengeance, everyone violating the law must be treated equally. Selective application of law to lawbreakers based on their political affiliation is unacceptable.
By saying that he can do anything under the sun and spend his money in the corridors of justice to get off the hook is demeaning the Judiciary and telling how the rich can buy off justice and be set free by our courts. This reminds us of the story of the poor Mercy Keino, a university of Nairobi Student from Kericho who was brutally murdered after an altercation with Mr. Kabogo.
Mr. Kabogo must desist from attacking Mr. Raila Odinga.
He must stop making inflammatory remarks about him or else we shall cause him to spend the billions of shillings he claims to have to buy his freedom.
