Mt. Kenya mafia have hatched a new ploy to divide Luhya votes in the 2017 elections.
After successfully  removing  Mudavadi from ODM ahead of the 2013 polls and giving him a running-mate (Jeremiah Kioni), a political party (UDF) plus funding in millions of shillings, the group  is said to be behind the new political foray by former speaker Kenneth Marende assisted by ex-Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo.
The Uhuru regime is alleged to have set aside sh 2 billion to divide the luhya vote which will again ensure CORD’s Raila Odinga does not get the whole chunk of the vote. Marende and former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo were quoted saying they’ve formed a new Luhya party.
“Others are willing to partner with us, we’ll be taken seriously. Already Jubilee leaders are willing to work with us if we unite,” said Marende.
Secretly in Marende-Jirongo team is Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba. The ODM SG recently quipped he may ditch ODM ahead of the 2017 elections.
Kakamega Senator Bonie Khalwale has however dismissed the new initiatives to ‘unite’ luhyas, saying the community will not again be sold in the political market. Khalwale revealed he believed Mudavadi was genuinely seeking the presidency in 2013 until he realised how deep Mt. Kenya was in the whole mix. He has often regretted supporting Mudavadi.
