A meeting held by leaders in Gikomba, Nairobi following an early morning fire that left at least 2,000 business operators counting losses turned into a political forum with Senator Mike Sonko accusing the city Governor Dr Evans Kidero of labeling him as a drug peddler.
The flamboyant Senator accused Dr Kidero of propagating unfounded allegations against him with an aim of tarnishing his name.
â€œI want to say it hear so that the Governor can hear; I have never been involved in drug deals and I cannot support such activities,â€ said the Nairobi Senator.
â€œIt is very bad for me to be labelled a drug trafficker whereas I have never been involved in such deal.â€
The Senator, who had accompanied Deputy President William Ruto, said claims that his Sonko Rescue Team was being funded by drugs business were unfounded and painting his name the wrong way.
The outspoken Senator further accused the County Government of Nairobi of being unprepared when it comes to disaster preparedness and response.
He called on the National Government to help counties establish functional disaster preparedness offices and teams in order to help address emergencies.
He said that they will help the Gikomba fire victims settle after the deadly incident.
