Opposition leader Raila Odinga yesterday used an AK-47 riffle to shoot ‘alive’ President Uhuru who almost launched a grenade attack on the CORD leader in what is shaping up to be the greatest political battle by Kenya’s two most powerful politicians.
It is akin to political terrorism! Boom! Boom! Boom!
Uhuru’s case: Raila is pulling me back. He’s opposing me for the sake of it. I’d rather import sugar from Uganda than from Brazil. That’s what Uhuru is saying.
Raila’s case: President Uhuru’s sugar deal is a bad deal. Bad for Kenyan farmers and bad for the country. Uganda doesn’t produce surplus sugar hence the so called ‘Uganda sugar’ comes from Brazil, Fiji, Mauritania etc. Don’t import, build local sugar production capacity.
In between are all sorts of accusations from every political human being in Kenya.
Already, western Kenya MPs have declined a hurriedly arranged meeting at state house. They’ve instead scheduled a press conference at Parliament buildings.
The battle is not just at presidential and parliamentary level. On the Republic of Social Media of Kenya, government allied and opposition bloggers -a new phenomenon in Kenya’s evolving democratic culture – took ‘hard positions’ throughout yesterday, with each side having more than a bile to throw.
And, unlike politicians, the young online activists knows no boundaries, for social media’s instant feedback makes the debates get personal, then viral.
An expectant western Kenya is watching while Mt. Kenya is livid. Development politics!
