Earlier today CORD Leader the Rt Hon Raila Odinga hosted a delegation of 200 Kalenjin professionals for roundtable discussions in which they expressed their mounting frustrations under the current administration to the attentive former Prime Minister.
The professionals primarily decried the poor market prices for the maize and tea produced in their farms in Kalenjin counties as compared to other partts of Kenya. They further took issue with the rising fertilizer prices putting forward that agriculture in the Rift Valley has been brought to its knees.
The Kalenjin professionals further cited runaway insecurity in West Pokot, Baringo, Samburu and Isiolo Counties that has not been addressed requesting the Premier’s intervention in leading peace talks between warring communities in a manner similar to what he did in Baringo a few weeks earlier.
The professionals were drawn from Tugen, Marakwet, Nandi, Kipsigis, Sabaot, Keiyo, Njemps, Pokot, Agiek, Terik and Sengwer communities and put forward that minority groups are being excluded in the distribution of the national cake. They felt frustrated that jobs and opportunities are the preserve of those close to the center of power and urged him to push the agenda of equity and equality for all.
