Ipsos Synovate, formerly Steadman Group, will this morning release a new opinion poll whose main item is CORD leader Raila Odinga’s future.
This is despite the fact that Odinga did not request the polling agency to research on his future, neither should he, a leader in the opposition, be the focus of any polls at a time Kenya is facing insurmountable leadership challenges.
Raila’s spokesperson Dennis Onyango has consistently protested putting focus on Raila when the really polling should be on President Uhuru’s handling of various sectors of the Kenyan society.
Speaking to Kenya Today, Onyango wondered how ”Raila’s future” is so important to the pollster than having Kenyans give their verdict on the handling of economy by the jubilee regime, where the shilling is now selling at sh. 107 to the dollar
Ironically, the polls, whose media invite has been seen by this writer, only lists Uhurus ‘approval rating’. This is surprising because being the President, Uhuru has more public resources and media airtime at his disposal to remain omnipresent in public conciousness than any other political leader the poll will purport to compare his popularity with.
It is becoming common for Ipsos to release such polls every time Uhuru’s handling of government is under scruitiny; and, each time, Uhuru tops!
Indeed, why hasn’t the poll conducted an opinion on President Uhuru’s political future in the simmering fallout being witnessed in the Rift Valley?
For example, what is President Uhuru’s ”political future” without Kalenjins and, or, in the event that the ICC finds Deputy President William Samoei Ruto guilty?
What is President Uhuru’s political future considering the massive failure of his government, already on its knees, under the heavy weight of corruption?
