Believe it or not Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko is the most popular County leader across the country. This is not according to Prime time TV opinion poll but its based on a professional survey conducted by the respected Ipsos pollsters.
According to the survey where adult respondents were interviewed in Nairobi & across the country Sonko is the most popular County leader outsmarting all his fellow Senators and Governors who are clamoring for more money for their budgets.
According to the survey most Kenyans like the flamboyant Sonko for his sensational public appearance and flamboyant style of dress and mannerism. Not forgetting his philanthropic nature.
Residents in 40 out of the 47 Counties would like Sonko to be their leader in their respective counties. The City Senator who is referred to as “Super Senator†by his fellow Senators is the leading County leader in humanitarian aid. Sonko is a darling of most City residents for his generosity.
The Senator is popular in all City Constituencies even in CORD strongholds like Kibera, Mathare and Embakasi. According to the opinion poll released by Ipsos lead researcher Tom Wolf, Governors only enjoy a 33 percent approval rating across the country. Compared to them Sonko has an approval rating of over 50 percent.
The poll is an endorsement given to Sonko over his leadership style although critics will question his family leadership style after his relationship with Nairobi Women’s Rep Rachael Shebesh went public. We also learnt that his name was removed from most popular leader nationalwide after it emerged he had become a threat to other national leaders countrywide.
According to our insider at IPSOS Sonko was only beaten by President Uhuru Kenyatta in the popularity contest. He overtook the likes of National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Dualle, National Assembly Speaker JB Muturi, Chief Justice Dr. Willy Mutunga, former VP Kalonzo Musyoka among others to almost tally with CORD principal Raila Odinga. After internal consultations top IPSOS directors decided it would be safe for them if they removed the name of the flamboyant Senator from the popularity ranking list of national leaders. According to sources the move angered internal experts within IPSOS.
