It can now be revealed that DP Ruto was behind the resignations of IEBC commissioners. A reliable source has confirmed that the move was meant to shield Chiloba over alleged procurement malpractice (corruption in tendering) and also provide the DP an opportunity to have much stronger allies to join the commissioners.
The three commissioners who resigned were the least qualified with Connie Nkatha’s papers being in doubt. The knows that moving forward he needs strong puppets not weaklings that have challenges to read a pre-written statement.
DP Ruto is taking the lead to reform the IEBC that is a key agenda of the Raila Uhuru handshake. Ruto knows that a complete overhaul of the IEBC when NASA is strong will greatly diminish his ability to get his allies appointed.
The DP wants to take advantage of the current state of affairs where NASA is on complete comatose (Raila is enjoying being refereed to His Excellency) and carry out a cosmetic reform in IEBC and have his strong cronies dominate both the secretariat and the commission
The DP is ready to sacrifice Chiloba for abetter strong candidate who will either be a Luyha/Kisii or Somali. The DP is said to have considered approaching NASA CEO Norman Magaya, former Mombasa senator Omar Hassan and lawyer James Mamboleo as possible replacement of Chiloba. Magaya is a top Raila ally and if he is proposed there shall be little or no resistance given his extreme loyalty to Raila. Hon Hassan Omar is also a strong contender of IEBC CEO, given his past role as KNCHC commissioner Omar will also have little resistance. Lawyer James Mamboleo who in 2013 campaigned for Raila is now a Jubilee sycophant and many within camp Ruto think he can make a perfect CEO at IEBC.
