Dear Kikuyus, Give Elder FRANCIS ATWOLI a break, let his signpost be; please!

By Alberto Nyakundi Amenya aka the Banana Peddler

In this country, they call you a tribalist when you speak the truth but I’ll speak it anyway. If this post irritates you, you can go to the newly rechristened FRANCIS ATWOLI ROAD in Kileleshwa and hung your ass there.

Come to think of it, why are our fellow brothers and sisters from the mountain obsessed with uprooting Atwoli’s signpost yet every good thing, place and road is named after their people? Why don’t they want to see a foreign name in a road in Nairobi? Are Kikuyus the only heroes in this country? Atwoli has done a lot for this country.

Kikuyus love only themselves. When they renamed former FOREST ROAD after Wangari Maathai, we all kept quiet. Boniface Mwangi was silent. When they renamed former ACCRA ROAD after their own KENNETH MATIBA, we said it is okay and Boniface Mwangi said it’s cool. Why are they going ballistic when we rename a simple path after this son of Mulembe?

The irony is that if you go to Kisumu, Kakamega and Eldoret, you’ll find roads, places and institutions named after Kikuyus but in Central it is quite the opposite. Today if you rename a STADIUM in Muranga after RAILA ODINGA, wakikuyu wataandamana mpaka State House to petition Uhuru over the same.

People like Raila Odinga deserve a whole whole City into their names given the fight they’ve put up and sacrificed their balls to save this country but not even a path has been named after them as an appreciation.

Let me tell you something, I have a premonition that very soon, MOI AVENUE will be renamed after FERDINAND WAITITU. I also see TOM MBOYA STREET being renamed after MWAI KIBAKI and there is nothing you can do about it.

Kenyatta’s name is all over our throats? There is no corner in this country that you won’t find Kenyatta’s name but we are okay with it. Please let ATWOLI’s sign be. I was agaisnt but now I support it. As they say, only a fool’s mind remains unchanged.

I’m a Kikuyu and I support Atwoli Rd. Why insult all Kikuyus?

if the sign is being removed due to tribal lines then all the other roads named after kikuyus in other counties should be removed. this will be dangerous and cause tribal clashes in our country. let tribal issues out of this matter my brother. a road is not food and can not help you put bread on ur table because it is named after ur kinsman.

I believe we should the tribal clashes way, after that we’ll have to respect one another like in Rwanda. There’s too much talk in the country. Politicians talk, citizens talk, nothing happens.
