A resolution during a charged meeting in Deputy President William Ruto’s home over the weekend resolved that all Kalenjins who will vote in Nairobi in 2017 will register as voters in Lang’ata constituency where the party has identified a candidate.
Nixon Korir, an official in Deputy President’s office vied in the last election and came distant 4th (lost unopposed) trailing TNA and ODM candidates, the ODM candidate Hon Joash Olum won with landslide and is the current MP.
Short changing of URP in the Jubilee administration started in Langata constituency, during nominations TNA and URP zoned off areas where they had strong presence and Ruto had identified Langata but TNA went on to field a candidate, said an angry URP member
The DP, who was the host, told the gathering that all Kalenjins living and working in Nairobi should register as voters in Langata and vote for any youthful candidate from Rift Valley or with roots in RV.
There are two leading candidates for the seat; Nixon Korir and Steve Kewa. Kewa is a Nairobi based businessman and is an online general for the URP wing of Jubilee while Nixon Korir works as Youth advisor to the presidency.
Korir’s popularity in Langata is fast fading since he is a civil servant and therefore not active in politics while the abrasive Steve Kewa is gaining popularity especially if his massive online presence is anything to go by.
Lets Register in Langata constituency; Its Our Home away from home; For who the candidate will be, don’t worry, wanaume na wanawake ni kuonana chi eng chi .‪#‎Kibagenge‬. University & college students,CDF is your fees!! Kewa posted on his Facebook page
The Karen meeting was a consultative meeting but didn’t happen the way it had been planned due to constraints of time on DP Ruto who was called to statehouse to join the president for the state of the nation address regarding the Teachers’strike.
