Deputy President William Ruto’s case at the ICC has been strengthened after ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda got a reprieve when Appeals Chamber ruled statements of witnesses who have left the case can be submitted into evidence.
Some of these witnesses -and this is where the case gets complex -were state officials. They declined to cooperate when it convenienced them not to do so, having been retained in the government formed, unexpectedly, when the Deputy President joined hands with President Uhuru and won the 2013 elections.
Ruto men have severally accused these officials of ‘fixing’ the Deputy President. Many have denied with some, like Mutea Iringo, who worked in the previous regime as Internal Security PS, Â threatening legal action against DP Ruto’s lawyer, Mr. Kharim Khan.
Pundits agree that the only way for DP Ruto to get away is to become President and use state machinery to deal with the case as President Uhuru did. This should be as early as 2017.
In fact, DP Ruto supporters have started openly calling on President Uhuru to let Ruto carry the Jubilee ticket for 2017 if he genuinely wants to see him out of the ICC.
DP Ruto’s chief online apostle Kiborek Ruben had this to say when the ICC Judges ruled to allow prosecutor use prior statement by hostile witnesses in the case against Ruto
If by 2017 William Ruto, Joshua Sang case will not be over, we will ask our TNA brothers to support William Ruto for President so that he can also use AU to bail himself out of this Kangaroo court.
Since ICC is a political court it calls for a political solution William Ruto for President 2017, Uhuru 2022. Koborek was quoted.
