RESPONDING TO Seth Odongo , HIS SCHOOL OF THOUGHT AND THE BUSYBODIES
By Hon Jim Bonnie
Yesterday, my friend Seth decided to toss me to the firing squad on his wall for the mere reason that I have been criticizing how Raila’s PR is handled. He tried to maintain the line of temperance albeit with bundles of mockery.
I was pummeled by his credulous audience who unsurprisingly included Lee Makwiny, a celebrated potbellied micro-thinker who collectively with others lashed at me, derided me and masticated my repute in a celebratory mood – refereed by Seth.
While I concur with Seth Odongo on what he posited, I disagree with the slenderness of his argument. He elucidated that “substance†must be given prominence to “formâ€. It depends on your school of thought and interest but marketing experts will tell you that “form†is a courier that should market the substance. No argument about this.
Suffice to say, I and other concerned Raila supporters have been agitating for proper handling of Raila and issues around him. I have insisted time without number that we need to scale up Raila’s online presence which is presently a vital political campaign tool.
But the busybodies around Raila have always trivialized the conversation and Seth Odongo’s attack on me was a stark reminder of the vilification of freethinkers within ODM and a manifestation of narrow-mindedness of folks who have rented their soul so cheaply to sycophancy.
You all saw how he reduced the debate to a mere argument on photos while you and I know that the topic is wider than the sky. It is such farfetched lies that make people within and without the party view it as a party of bellicose bullies.
We are facing an opponent who is casing his campaign in both form and substance. Why would people like Seth mislead Raila supporters that we should only concentrate on substance? Why not both? It is irritating and repugnant to hear such third class arguments advanced as intellectual arguments.
Seth behaved like a boss baby taking a moral high ground while concealing basic facts from his audience. You all saw how some days ago he whined over the win by Muhammaru Buhari in Naigeria. A quick look at his campaign organizational prowess reveals a man who never sold substance alone but mixed it with form.
This is the truth that people like Seth will never tell you.
Apparently their posts are tailored to appease some individuals in the party that is why they are always predictable, full of obviousness and perpetually monodirectional. Recently, Seth opposed the ipsos opinion polls but, I supported stating explicitly that they are truth and factual caption of public opinion.
I went ahead and stated that let’s use the polls to rectify our mistakes and gain mileage. As Seth and his clique wedged a sensational opposition to the opinion polls, new ODM Executive Director posited, on 17th April 2015 on facebook that:
“I don’t subscribe to the practice of politicians accepting opinion polls when they favour them and dismissing the same when not palatable. I therefore believe that ipsos polls released yesterday were accurate†– Oduor Ong’wen.
I leave it for you to judge. It should be known that if we don’t rescind the traditional ways of campaigning for Raila, then we should not cheat ourselves. If we can’t demand the best from those charged with handling Jakom then, let’s prepare ourselves for another disappointment.
For those like Seth who are still in the dreamland that Raila doesn’t need a proper PR, continue cheating your conscious but come 2017, if we don’t change, Raila will lose by 8.00am before all votes are cast. I would want to look at your face and see the expression.
Probably, as you are accustomed to, you will craft another crappy theory to justify the loss.
