Hon. Dr. Evans Odhiambo Kidero is an influential Luo. He is also an influential Kenyan. I know he is influential because he is the Governor of the richest county in Kenya. Previously he was CEO of a big company somewhere in Western Kenya. I hear the Company is going through tough economic times and no one other than the president of the Republic of Kenya took a dummy 1 Billion cheque to bail it out.
I also know he is influential because he named a road after himself somewhere in Karen. With that, he joined the elite of influential immortals like Tom Mboya, who he also calls father in law, Ojijo K’oteko and others. Jaramogi only has his name immortalised by a certain road in Kisumu. Kisumu is no Nairobi.
Hon Dr. Evans Odhiambo Kidero is also a rich man. I believe so because I have seen some document shared on social media by one Jacob Juma who allegedly sued him for one thing or the other. The document details Kidero’s earthly belongings which Mathew 19: 23 authoritatively states would make it very difficult for him to see the Kingdom of God. I hope he begins to do as Jesus suggests in good time to salvage his heavenly prospects!
Now the other day, Mutahi Ngunyi insulted a community which Dr. Evans Odhiambo Kidero belongs to. Being one of the most influential and richest Luos, we the smaller fish of the Luo community looked up to him to salvage our famous pride. He went mute!
Mutahi Ngunyi’s insult was not a one off. It was sustained from day to day. All that time, a guy who is so active on twitter was quiet. I remember when there was an uproar about some grass, he came out on twitter to calm passions. When Ngunyi was insulting his tribesmen and women, his brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, he was nowhere to be seen.
It took some young gallant Luos to take on Mutahi Ngunyi, a guy who consults for the NYS and the president to eat humble pie. In Ngunyi’s own words, he had apologised ‘unreservedly’ to the Luo Nation
In the meantime, the Director of Public Prosecutions and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission are doing their work.
Ngunyi did not only apologise on twitter, he also pulled down the offending tweets. Later he offered a white goat as a symbol of remorse.
I have since learnt that a goat was not the right symbol of apology in my community, though it is in the Kikuyu community. Ngunyi should have presented a young bull, one without any blemish. In fact, I hear he only presented the goat because he was unaware and was not properly advised on the type of animal that would suffice. However since he learnt of the mistake, he is planning to present the correct animal to cultural representatives of the Luo community at the proper venue in Kisumu.
In the meantime, Hon. Dr. Odhiambo Kidero has come out to milk political capital out of the whole thing. He is not castigating Ngunyi for insulting the Luos and giving a goat. He is castigating a small Luo who battled Ngunyi to deliver an apology. He is also exploiting the whole thing to show loyalty to Raila Odinga. We all know he has not been loyal to Tinga and in all fairness he does not have to be.
Hon. Dr. Evans Odhiambo Kidero should just manufacture his own public outrage and exploit it for political gain. He should leave the Luo- Ngunyi-Mboya-white goat outrage alone! If he must, then he must take on Ngunyi and demand an apology in the style and form he thinks is correct. He cannot fight other Luos for fighting Ngunyi and making concessions that he does not like.
Meanwhile, Jacob Juma suggests that Hon. Dr. Evans Odhiambo Kidero owns some shares in the Star Newspaper. That means he reads his paper everyday. The current edition of the star carries the story about how the now infamous or famous white goat depending on which perspective you take, disappeared after it fell or jumped off an open pick up along Riverside Drive enroute to its destination.
I expect Hon. Dr. Evans Odhiambo Kidero, being the one in charge of all the thickets, bushes and Forests in Nairobi to mobilise a manhunt for the white goat and return it to Mutahi Ngunyi.
This whole saga, apart from the segment still subsisting on the DPP’s desk with the potential to go to court, should disappear just as the goat. Most importantly, Hon. Dr. Evans Odhiambo Kidero must not politicise it!
