Meshack Yebei’s dissapearance and death caused quite a sensation in the country. But like all the other previous ‘puzzling’ cases, the media and the people will soon cease the reports, theories and opinions, even as we very well know the pointers to his execution.
Yebei’s MURDER will be vaulted in people’s memories just like the rest of the painfully familiar situations- , Mpoe’s, Ouko’s..okay I can’t even recall just the recently past ones. But here’s my point; Since his dissapearance in Dec 28, the media all over the world has been awash with Yebei’s news, with all it’s dramas, twists and turns. As a good citizen of this country, I’ve pieced some salient features of this case based on FACTS, to make it a bit clearer before it is completely forgotten.
It is important to know that at no time did Yebei ever worked with or supported the Deputy President William Ruto in his political career (Yebei’s) spanning over a decade . In 2002, while DP was in KANU, Meshack was in Narc. In 2007 he was in PNU, AND IN 2013 he stood as an independent candidate.
From the time he dissapeared on 28’th December, DP’s lawyer Karim Khan never made a claim that he was a defense witness, until his body was discovered a few days later. His brother, Mr. Ben Yebei had this to say, during an interview at KTN concerning Karim’s remarks, and I quote; ‘As a family we’re surprised and saddened by Karim’s claims’.
Was he a defense, or prosecution witness? There’s really no definite answer to this burning question. His family, and particularly the wife has denied any knowledge of Yebei being a witness to ICC, either as a prosecution or defense. Ken Wafula, an Eldoret based Human Right’s activist with whom the deceased was very close with insisted that Yebei was a prosecution witness.
But here’s a hot ‘reverse psychology’ to this all madness. Was somebody trying to play ping pong, just from the time he disappeared to cover up their tracks? First of all the family were in unanimous agreement that the Ugandan text was dubious, and unlike Yebei. He could have called, they argued. The fact that it was written in Kalenjin makes it the more suspicious. Clearly someone was trying to make it look authentic. I’ve seen the late Yebei’s wife on TV-speaks fluent swahili. The text read that he was with Bensouda’s people, Patrick and Lugusa.
The body of Hussein Borai, the person who was initially thought to be Yebei was interestingly similar with that of Yebei’s, and 14 family members positively identified it though it was somehow badly mutilated. Both 30 years old, same physique and Somali features and ‘ the small interesting matter of the enduring marks left on them during circumcision’.
Since his body was found 3 days later after his disappearance hundred of kilo metres away in Tsavo National park, his MURDER was to remain a slight matter of ‘lost persons’
Remember Yebei was unmasked in 2011 when a controversial blogger who is now employed by the government, leaked details of an email containing several names of ICC prosecution witnesses. Who do you think killed Yebei??
