Ides Of March

Prof. Mutahi Ngunyi, says of Ms. Anne Waiguru, “I do not know that woman.” Yet, he was her Consultant for nearly three years and paid millions of public money for it.

Ms. Anne Waiguru says of Josephine Irungu – “I haven’t met that woman” … Yet, Josephine was Ms. Waiguru’s hair-dresser for many years and later turned business partner/proxy and they shared millions (millions only? What about the 22Billion allocated to NYS?) together.

Hon. Justice Philip Tunoi when accused by Geoffrey Kiplagat of receiving us$2m said: “I have never met Geoffrey and don’t know him” .. Turned they are from the same village.

In brief, every accused person in Kenya has never met the co-accused. ‘Professor ‘ Mutahi Ngunyi has never met Josephine Kabura, Waiguru has never met Kabura. Mutahi Ngunyi has never met Waiguru. Waiguru has never met Mutahi Ngunyi. Tanui has never met Kidero, Kidero does not know Tanui, Tanui has never met Kiplagat. Soon enough, Mutahi Ngunyi will deny of ever meeting himself.

But who do these people take Kenyans for? Three week toddlers?

The month of March has always spawned betrayals across time. Best friends disowning each other. Relatives betraying each other. Lovers swearing not knowing each other.

On March 15, 44BC, Emperor Julius Caesar was killed on the footsteps of the Senate by his own nephew, Marcus Brutus. While dying, Julius Caesar called out to his nephew: “Et tu, Brute?” … Even you, Brutus? Few years later, Judas Iscariot betrayed our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and Jesus called him out: “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”

We are only in the February of our political season. March is nigh. We will see more betrayals. More double-crossing. More disowning. More unknowing each other. The umbilical cord of all these is stolen money not shared “equitably” by the thieves. Our Ides of March is coming.
