In his quick rise to political stardom, Ruto committed two egregious sins, for which the “gods” never forgave him.
1. Humiliating Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi.
Just like Uhuru Kenyatta, Ruto, was literally picked from obscurity by Moi. Ruto, a hustler by his own admission, and an outsider with no direct political linage to the “Kenyan political “throne.
President Moi felt particularly stung when Ruto teamed up with Raila, a man he christened Arap Mibei, to spread the euphoric ODM wave across the great Rift Valley in 2007, and with it, the Moi’s were swept off from political prominence, albeit shortly. From that point, the question was not if, but when, will Moi “teach ” Ruto a lesson.
2.Teaming Up with Raila:>
As a one term student at Raila Odinga university, and having only taken introductory classes in Political survival, Ruto, unable to contain his ambitions, opted to go into private practice.
Lack of further education beyond the introductory classes in political survival led to the poor political choice Ruto made in the run up to the 2013 presidential elections.
It is not deniable that Ruto and Uhuru enjoy a good personal relationship, but Uhuru the President owes his loyalty to Moi. Behind Uhuru, was the lurking shadow of Moi, and having studied Ruto, Moi presented a “Delilah” in the form of Deputy Presidency to Ruto( all his budget allocations like tea money had to be approved by the state house). They have learned his strengths, cut his hair locks, and gorged out his eyes, and like Samson, Ruto is in a cage, waiting to entertain the philistines.
Slowly and surely they have punctured Ruto; seeing Ruto siting in ICC court, courtesy of PNU activists and sympathizers, it is hard to believe that this is the man who so eloquently and charismatically introduced RAO in 2007 ODM party convention.
I am not god to confer guilt or innocence, but one thing is sure, for Ruto to survive, he must fight fast and “tackle hard”. The wheels of justice turns everyday and like Samson, Ruto can, with his last political act, define a new political route for Kenyans. Mr. Deputy President, you are leaning on the pillar, pray for strength one more time. Heroes in their deaths, achieve much for their people.
