Swimming through false confidence!
By George Morara
Aish! Kenyans stone me by all means but a huge aura of a primitive cloud hung rather low overshadowing the whole summit that’s happening in Kenya!
Beside Obama, there are guests from over 120 countries. All in the shadows.
The private Obama family dinner was the perfect reflection of us. The dining set was medieval; the atmosphere was like class 8 candidates waiting for some angry invigilator coming to cancel the exam – the silence was so loud except for Obama and Auma. Even grandma was bewildered. Lost! Perhaps if Obama had brought his daughters just for that dinner, the place would have lit up.
The state dinner excluded ALL other dignitaries in the country. The state ballroom looked like a tent- awfully done- The First Lady and the Enigma’s wife mama Ida turned up in outfits from 1815! All in a bad taste. You never really hear me criticise the Odinga’s but Ida let Kenya down with that awful kitenge- she should have been to a jua kali tailor- Alfie of Machakos, who once looked down on Obama, tried with his lady looking truly presidential. Of course she’s beautiful and dressed to match. Lucky guy, I wonder where he left his kids!
And what about our culture? Where was the traditional music dancers of Bomas? Loved Auma swinging though- I think she’s lovely…. But she’d have been adorned like a Maasai – a selling card for the country!
Poor planning of this well publicised event was evident everywhere….I hope the grass Kidero planted would be ready for when the street families return; they’ll need a nicer place to live. After all Kidero wasn’t alone in poor preparations- Uhuru held talks in a bland room with no flowers or flags – there was absolutely no colour and that mean Amina was staring as though Michelle’s absence meant she was the absolute alternative! Waiguru being a stealth player kept away- thanks to her, a cat fight was avoided!
Uhuru Kenyatta – everybody is praising him for tough talking on homosexuality! We have to differentiate between homosexuality (which is taboo in in our culture), and human rights (which should apply to all)- and that’s the catch for western media to paint us black! You’ve got to CALMLY get the facts right!
We are against homosexuality and that doesn’t mean we are discriminating against those who choose homosexuality. In Kenya we have gay people among the elite class enjoying a limelight that’s out of reach of ordinary Kenyans.
The drama continues…don’t know yet what the president’s private secretary will try to touch Obama’s suit to marvel at the material!
In the meantime the Kenya Ministry of Tourism, The tourist board, all deep asleep while CNN scares the tourists away!
This was an opportunity to showcase our Beautiful country!
The government hospitality chief ought to be relieved off their duties- this was shambolic!
Standards and protocols fell too short not only for national but international standards. The U.S. Somehow expected that and shipped their own logistics to counter the chaos!
Why don’t I have a job as PR strategist for the Kenyan government?! The answer is simple: it’s not the qualifications, but tribe and connection! And with that amount of primitivity, Putin will not be landing his Tupolev in Kenya in the near future!
And those empty promises? I should think my great grandchildren may just about convince American Airways and Delta landing in Nairobi- Richard Branson is in Nairobi and unlikely to resume his Virgin Airlines back there having hardly started, before pulling out!
Let’s begin talking when you find at least 10% of Africans- on any plane to and from any African Airport!
We are still, and behaving like a colony!
