The ongoing siege at the Westgate Shopping Mall has shocked the public not only the number of the death, injured and those still under hostage BUT also the disturbing image showing some police officers in the frontline carrying guns BUT without other basic combat gear. The Kenya Police were NOT wearing bullet-proof vests or even helmets.
A helmet and a bullet proof vest are basics in frontline combat operations, this has left the public questioning how the huge military budget allocation is spend, focus will shift to the interior ministry to answer the tough questions to the Kenyan public.
2nd liberation hero Hon Koigi wa Wamwere in his Facebook wondered how the police dispatched to such dangerous operation could not be well equipped.
“As I watch news unfold outside Westgate Mall, I see police carrying guns but not wearing bullet-proof vests. A police friend in a foreign land tells me this is not just dangerous to the police, it is also unthinkable. Can one of my critics tell me whether it is right for our police to go fighting without bullet-proof vests and when should someone who notices this anomaly speak?” https://www.facebook.com/koigi.wawamwere?fref=ts
A parliamentary Committee will most likely be constituted to question the Interior security ministry top officials. There is no excuse at all to expose our police to such extreme danger, the government had all the time to even borrow the kits from Sudan, China or any other country that is tandem with our anti west policy, or better still the willing WEST!
