When I was a child, and still naive, I got excited when mum bought me a blazer. I thought I was special. I jumped. I was more than happy. Then, in the evening, I realized, quite unfortunately, that mum had bought a blazer for all my siblings, and so I wasn’t any more special than the rest of my siblings. The same case here, people are excited that Pope, Obama, and Benjamin Netanyahu are visiting Kenya. They do not know that these people visit other African nations as well, and there is nothing special about the visits, really.
It is naive, dishonest, to attribute the visit by three of the world’s finest men to Uhuru Kenyatta’s exemplary record. If you delve into the nitty-gritty of each of this visit, you will realize how wide apart from the truth you are operating. For starters, Benjamin Nentanyahu didn’t just come to Kenya- he went to Uganda and will be going to Ethiopia, too.
If Nentanyahu came to Kenya because the president is a great performer, the best Africa has ever had, why then did he go to Uganda- with a beau-coup of many failures in the backdrop? I put it to you that Nentanyahu was in Uganda and Kenya purposely to commemorate the Entebbe rescue exactly forty years ago when he lost his brother, Yonatan, in the same operation.
Kenya played a significant role in the whole operation as it allowed the Israel rescuers to refuel in our airspace. Unless Museveni is a wonderful performer, too, then don’t attribute Nentanyahu’s visit to Kenya to Uhuru’s ‘sterling’ image.
2. The visit by Obama was also not because of Uhuru’s imaginary wonderful performance. When he came to Kenya, he did so because it is in Kenya he traces his parentage. And he had promised to visit before leaving office. In 2013, the man was in Africa again- but in Tanzania, Senegal and South Africa. How was Tanzania of strategic importance to America in 2013 when Obama visited?
3. Pope’s visit to Kenya was also not about Uhuru Kenyatta. It wasn’t because Kenya was performing well. You will realize that in his itinerary, he also went to the Central Africa Republic which is war-torn, poor, and struggling in human rights. It is alleged that since the Pope, like Jesus, likes to serve the poor of the earth, he visited the two countries because they are struggling with poverty, insecurity, and dwindling fortunes so as to bring a message of hope. But, more honestly, when the pope came, top in his list of do’s was a meeting with religious and ecumenical leaders and a visit to the Kangemi slum in the outskirts of Nairobi.
In Uganda, top of his list of do’s was a commemoration of 23 Anglican and 22 Catholic martyrs killed for their faith on the orders of King Mwanga II in the years 1885 to 1887. Therefore, Pope’s visit to Africa was religious, but as always, and in the characteristic Jubilee style of stealing and theft, you people stole the glory of the visit to claim it is because Uhuru is a good president, and because he has made our economy to grow.
Listen here, brothers and sisters there are more powerful economies in Africa that have NOT featured in the itinerary of these powerful visits- for example Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, etc. And you should also realize that there are countries that are doing rather poorly but that have featured in the itinerary of the visits- think of Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, etc.
An in-depth look at the visit will reveal that though these visits are merely coincidental, as they coincided with a major geopolitical event, they are more of the world seeking security partners in the fight against terror. America and Israel, as you already know, are deeply concerned with Islamic religious fundamentalism. And Islamic religious fundamentalism is getting entrenched just next door, in Somalia.
The Vatican, as you can guess, has an inextricable link to the Holy Land, which is the hot spot of controversy in the Middle East- where Nentanyahu comes from, and a conflict in which America is deeply involved. You know what the proliferation of terror cells portends for the world. And you know what each of the three men- Pope Francis, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Barrack Obama- represent. Therefore, quit the grandstanding and distortion of facts- read your facts straight, Men!
