Raila Presidency 2017 -A good idea, a bad team mindset!
By Ndolo Asasa Owuon KwaOsango
Before the political high priests take to the podium let me share my take, I might just be listened to -who knows?
1. Let me start by declaring that I have always supported (literally) in my own unique modest ways Raila’s presidential campaigns and
2. Declare that Raila has been in the past and probably will again be the best presidential candidate in 2017. But like the past Raila may just not make it to the Presidency again! despite his superlative candidacy. This is mainly due to;
A).Bubble bravados not backed with strategic nurturing and reaching out to partners and individuals to secure and safeguard votes to the extend of making rigging by any opponent unrealistic and counterproductive. The Raila team so far heavily relies on ‘natural’ supporters and hardly go after such strategic supporters in the same vigour as they go for voters. While I am a believer of self pride, ”okwasech” kind of bravados or is it nyadhi, do not aid political pursuasion especially where you have been systematically decampaigned to firefighting as you nyadhied and moled with swag! Another declaration, I am no strategic person just a Voter, one vote holder.
B).A visibly Luo-heavy presidential campaign advisors, campaign secretariat and campain contacts even in tradionally non/little Luo presence areas (Luos can and indeed should heavily be involved but not for display if you ask me). Raila’s Presidency should be shareheld by as many communities as possible.
Finally, Raila must divorce his Presidential campaign from MPs, Senators and Governors’ campaigns. These fellas should add value to Raila’s campaigns and not Raila pushing them on wheelbarrows! Raila and presidential campaign team must focus the energies entirely on marketing Raila as President and his party’s/ coaltion’s presidential manifesto.
I wish I could close by just praying for Raila, but elections are not won that way. Maybe I should just dream of a Raila Presidency!
