ODM AFFAIRS and the RACE to a CUL DE SAC

ODM AFFAIRS and the RACE to a CUL DE SAC

We woke up to news of the usual shenanigans, a faction of ODM fighting for airtime with another faction of ODM. Jitambulishe outfit trying to outbox another initiative hatched and anchored by the party’s SG! If that wasn’t enough, party enthusiasts spent a whole day locking horns on who was right and who was wrong! Facebook was awash with party-infused prose on who was wrong and who was right on matters ODM. Sounds like a familiar movie? You bet!

We are litigating the same issues that were decided four score and seven years ago! While our opponents are busy charting their electoral course, we are busy cannibalising one another! But what are we doing the same thing right after suffering a devastating blow in the hands of Jubilee using the exact same blueprint? The answer is simple: we are stuck in the same school of thought.

It’s time to get real. We will not uncork a formula to victory with the same flawed script that led to a humiliating defeat in the hands of a more organized political outfit. Living in denial is not only foolish but counter productive. We are seeing the same schisms that bedevilled our outfit in the last contest pop up again and if we allow them to take root, we are history!

SG Ababu’s outfit then, was eclipsed by sideshows that had nothing to do with winning the big dance but get a few folks to the legislature. The same forces are at it again with a parallel outfit for the same reasons! SG Ababu is trying to get folks to get IDs but some luo Nyanza MPs have torpedoed his efforts by running parallel schemes meant to dent and frustrate the SG’s efforts.

One thing is clear; ODM must prove that it can let its officials exercise autonomy on party affairs because if it is not able to do that, Wiper party will start looking more attractive to most open minded politicos. The luo Nyanza MPs who are reportedly holding ODM in a guillotine must be told that for ODM to be taken seriously, it must espouse and demonstrate real democratic ideals that are far reaching beyond luo Nyanza.

The current crop of Johny-come-latelies who purport to be die-hard ODMERs are merely interested in nomination certificates and not the Marquee political prize that all ODMErs would love to see – a RAO Presidency!
The fact that RAO allows this to happen sends the unfortunate signal that he endorses the wanton behaviour obtaining in ODM and if that’s the case then GOD bless us all.

How can we compete against the most coherent and organized political organization in the history of Kenya? Jubilee, for all its gigantic failures in governance, they have been able to appear in control of the basics while ODM has been a bedrock of instability, indecisiveness, distrust and incompetence. Incompetence?! Show me a party election that ODM has carried out and I will tell you about competence.

We are yet to clean up the Kasarani men in black thing and we are still fighting over moles and proximity to RAO! 2017 is RAO’s last chance of making a meaningful mark and by that I mean not running for President because any sound political mind must know that 2017 was decided kitambo sana.

RAO is in the same position that he was in 2002. Go for it and lose miserably or endorse others and have your coalition win. ODM is incapable of presenting a unified force because of self interests and its only logical to pursue other workable solutions.

So there you have it, if RAO goes for the top job with the current infighting, its game short. Those Mpigs will capture some seats but RAO will be consigned to irreparable historical straits. Its your choice.
