FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Austin, Texas USA
Tuesday 12th July 2016
A few days ago, Citizen TV reported that I am interested in the position of Secretary General of ODM. The station further reported that I am therefore pushing for the position of party chairman to be given to Western Kenya in exchange for the SG coming to Nyanza and to me specifically. The station had nothing to back this claim and made no attempt to get my views. That report has since been picked up even by ODM supporters, thus fuelling more confusion and anxiety within the party.
I wish to make it clear that I have no interest in positions other than those I currently hold in the party. I am the Woman Rep for Homa Bay the chair of ODM Homabay County. These are heavy enough responsibilities. I remain forever thankful to the voters and the party for the opportunity. But it is also my belief that I do not need positions to serve the party. I do not need to be chairman or SG to serve the party and its supporters. I have gone beyond job descriptions that come with being an MP and a county chair to do what the party and our supporters need. I will continue doing so without seeking any extra positions and even when I hold no position at all.
We need to focus on what makes our party grow, what makes our supporters get identity cards and register as voters and what helps Raila Odinga become President in August 2017. We must ignore distractions created by media that are openly fighting the party and our party leader Raila Odinga. As a party, we have enough enemies and many battles to fight. Let’s not invent more.
Long Live ODM, Long Live RAO
