When Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi, son of Moses Mudamba Mudavadi jumped from the ODM party ship into a Kibaki-Uhuru crafted UDF ship, he enthusiastically christened himself Messi to equate himself with the prolific Argentine and Barcelona striker who triples as World Player of the Year.
Mudavadi tried to dissociate himself from the adage that he was a ‘State House Project’ created to help kin of President Mwai Kibaki and State House’s blue eye boy, Uhuru Kenyatta, ascend to power through divide and rule scheme, by insisting that he would “go all the way to the ballot†as a presidential candidate. As was expected, and as it turned out yesterday, that was a lie; a very big lie.
A messy Musalia returned into his former shoe of confusion, earlier eluding KNC-POA and TNA-URP meeting arrangements yesterday. The Sabatia MP shirked his schedules with Peter Kenneth and Raphael Tuju and Uhuru and Ruto of the respective alliances denying the former a Third Force formation. After waiting in vain at Uhuru Park Freedom Corner, the pact gave up on him.
Uhuru Kenyatta being the master with his deputy William Ruto would not let it lying down that messy Mudavadi could most likely messy up their plans, they followed him to his hideout at his Riverside residence and later at Laico Regency Hotel where they reminded him that he would be without a party to run on if he refused their offer for Majority Leader in their pact. Musalia Mudavadi thought for a while about it and realized that, indeed, UDF belonged to Uhuru; he was a mere stooge. He signed an agreement to support Uhuru in disguise that he would contest the ticket with him.

Such confusion! That could not be any close to the meticulous Lionel Messi who creates chances and brings home good news after decisive football matches. Musalia has messed himself up once again. He has lost his worth in a pool of sludge and is not keen on retrieving it.
It is ten years ago when the son of Mudamba Mudavadi backed off from a winning Rainbow Alliance to back up Uhuru’s presidential bid. He was handed a 56-days Vice Presidency before he would be dumped into a political limbo for five years. His team of former President D. T. Moi, Uhuru and Ruto could not offer him any tangible help. They either cared the less or simply had no idea on how to do it. It took a bold hand of Raila A. Odinga, the ODM leader, to salvage him from the rot; from the miry bog. Like a loving father, he brought him up and placed him higher than he ever imagined. The Swahili say: Ahsante ya punda ni mateke! (A donkey expresses thanks by kicks)
If Musalia would not be confused as Kenyans think, he would be able to learn lesson from disappearances of former VP Moody Awori, Mukisha Kituyi, Musikari Kombo, Kiraitu Murungi and Simeon Nyachae among others from politics. If the same would be on the right side of the divide they would still be vibrant. That is evident in old men like Ole Ntimama, Henry Kosgey, Ramadhan Kajembe, among others. Bad choice brings sadness to the face. Wrong decision brings regrets.
Finally, as it stands today that money corrupts even trusted brains; it would not be proper for a man to hoodwink people to support his selfish expeditions. If the gifts that detracted Musalia from the ODM, for a project, are drained he can restrain his hunger and avoid confusion. Sometime man swallows his pride and saves his face.
The Saboti MP can also learn from the political life of the VP Kalonzo Musyoka. Since he left his team for a deal with Kibaki five years ago the Mwingi North MP has not gained strength. Instead he has lost calories day and night. At one time his associates in the Kibaki camp sought to deplete it from him. Imprecisely, they asked him out of the ground; out of what he took as his choice for political future, the extinct G7. It was one of the worst shameful acts in the society.

He can remain in the team where members regard him truly and share with them the little they have, for in it is the strength he requires. Sometime man swallows his pride and saves his face.
