Deputy President William Ruto’s latest angry admonitions of his Kalenjin Critics and pleas to be supported unquestioningly so that he succeeds President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022 is the height of political bad manners and should be condemned by all Kenyans.
Every mature and politically informed Kalenjin today knows that the DP’s current political problems in Rift Valley have nothing to do with other leaders undermining him but the result of having risen to power using shortcuts, lies and negative propaganda only to occupy the high office and miserably fail to deliver on all the promises to voters.
The way to confront and solve the problems is not by fighting and calling other Kalenjin leaders names.
Firstly, his rise to the leadership of the community was through the backdoor. It thus has no blessings, hence the endless problems he is encountering daily. Former President Daniel Arap Moi got it following elaborate identification, annointing and corronation which involved all Kalenjin leaders and elders (diviners) He was issued with the greatest symbol of leadershuip and authority of the community: The SAMBUT.
To date the SAMBUT is still in Mzee Moi’s possesion meaning that Moi is still the Kalenjin leader and not William Ruto. I thus urge Hon. William Ruto to humble himself and go back to the elders (MYOT) and with their help persuade H.E DT. Arap Moi to annoint him and hand over the SAMBUT to confirm him in office as the rightful and undisputed Kalenjin political supremo.
William Ruto should use the opportunity to repent and start a new and friendly working relations with the elders and the clergy. If he doesn’t know how he can request guidance from H.E. Moi who had perfected the art while he served as President.
As for his wild allegations and lamentations about the Uhuru-succession he should not take Kalenjins for fools. The people know too well that he has too major hurdles standing in between him and 2022. One is the ICC puzzle which he should focus on more seriously before he even think of the the next elections.
There is also the 2017 elections which Jubilee is not even sure of winning after a series of failures which have left majority of Kenyans including their own supporters doubting their competence to continue leading the country.
Besides there is that lingering doubt that even if William Ruto helps UHURU to win in 2017 the TNA supporters of UHURU won’t reciprocate and propel Ruto to power in 2022 because they are known to dislike voting for candidates from outside.
Apart from the above, William Ruto must be reminded that the main propeller for the current rebellion and political unrest in Rift Valley is the ongoing economic persecution of the locals under Jubilee government watch. Virtually all farmers : Tea, Maize, Dairy, Beef have been brought down to their knees financially due to abrupt cuts in market prices for theIr produce.
So bad that this is happening when market prices for the commodities have either remained steady or even increased. Suffering farmers have been reduced to beggers and wonder why this is happening to them in the hands of a government they whole heartedly voted into office.
The impoverishment of the Rift Valley farmers, coupled with crippling insecurity in the North Rift, high prices of farm inputs and rising dictatorship in the URP party are major concerns for Kalenjins and if Ruto expects to stem the rebellion, he must bring them to an end soonest; and he must be seen to be handling them directly. Without that , even his now boring song of succeeding Uhuru in 2022 will blow up in flames in 2017 and he becomes raia.
