From Tuju, Miguna, Kidero and now Dalmas; Luo Nation is killing her own sons !
By Jimmi Bonie
It would be in your best interest to know that I am a free thinker. Free thinkers aren’t known to be robots. They tell it as it is. That is why today, I want us to open our minds and turn our cameras to the great Luo nation.
I don’t want to discuss the heroes nor do I want to bore you with the Luo pride. I want us to face the monster that bedevils this great community. It goes without saying that Luo community has produced great leaders. Some of them – late – rekindle sad memories and horrifying occurrence.
You remember the shooting of Tom Mboya? You know well as I do that the murder of Robert Ouko dampened our spirits. I know many of us still regret the decision to demand Kenyatta’s release before Jaramogi forms government. Painfully, after this pathetic dictator came out of jail, he frustrated Jaramogi to the grave.
Hezekiah Ochuka also fits the bill. He was a gallant soldier who put his life on the line to free Kenyans from the bondage and oppression of dictator Moi. What was the reward? He had to face the hangman’s lasso in a slaughter-like cell. He became the last Kenyan to be butchered in jail through this instrument.
Odhiambo Mbai is the latest case who faced the wrath of tyrants in power for his role in championing devolution. Ironically, Achieng Oneko – the kapenguria-six comrade – who was incarcerated alongside Jomo Kenyatta died a pauper. Kenyatta while facing Mt. Kenya, left his son swimming in riches – of course stolen – and competing with Dangote – the richest man in Africa.
Anyone from Luo nation will tell you that these mind boggling events were and are still painful. However we need to look at other “deathsâ€. Deaths which are equally mind boggling. It seems to me that Luo nation has significantly participated and/or is participating in “killing†her sons. The political machination in this nation is disconcerting.
Immediately after the independence, Jaramogi became the only “hit song†in Nyanza. Nobody could roar and be heard. Jaramogi then ended up with sycophants around him. They were a bunch of robotic leaders who couldn’t add value to his fight for democracy. Though a few around him tried, many were a baggage to his quest.
Then here came his son – Raila Odinga – the enigma. Raila’s attempts to liberate Kenyans haven’t been cherished by some nincompoops. His several attempts to lead this country have been frustrated by incorrigible dark forces. Like his father, he suffers from acute shortage of leadership from those who surround him.
The so called leaders who follow him like flies are wretched losers who wouldn’t manage being a village elder without singing “Raila Tosha†“set piecesâ€. As a result, these charlatans have formed a perimeter wall that has over the years served to kill political talents in Nyanza. The empty headed chaps plus their supporters are credited for the “deaths†of political careers of many people in the Luo nation.
Raphael Tuju was a shining star and a great leader who transformed Rarieda constituency. But when he became a “threat†– according to the doctrine of the lazy singers around Raila – he was dealt with carelessly. Don’t tell me he was opposing Raila! That is bullshit! It is the watchmen calling themselves honorable and who guard the perimeter wall around Raila, akin to Berlin wall, who crafted the propaganda.
And what happened? They used their supporters to make it spread like bushfire. They say, if you want to kill a dog, first give it a very bad name. A name that would make everybody dislike the innocent carnivore. This is the same fate that Miguna Miguna suffered.
I know Miguna as the only Luo leader in the entire political career of Raila Amollo Odinga as the only notable high ranking son of Luo nation who has worked seriously hard to make Raila the president of this country. Others, and their mouthy supporters included, have just been engaging in guesswork and bootlicking.
Miguna was at the end of it all frustrated by his own people. He was scolded and badmouthed. The lethal supporters of the power cartels around Raila embarrassed Miguna and even went to an extent of burning his effigy in his rural home in Nyando. Some from Nyanza celebrated the “death†of their son.
Kidero is in line too. He has been accused of attempting to uproot and overthrow Raila. He has been accused of cohabitating with the “enemy†which in itself is a serious crime in Luo nation. His fundraising activities in Nyanza for development have been questioned mostly by folks from the Luo nation. His career too may be on its deathbed.
Dalmas Otieno’s political obituary has already been written. He has committed or intends to commit a capital offense. He has been admonished and “batteredâ€. In fact he has been written off from Nyanza politics by the pretentious Raila supporters who are best at character assassination.
I want to tell the Luo nation one fact. The assassinations of heroes by the previous dictatorial regimes are no different from the political careers of the gallant leaders you have killed. The government is blamed for tribal appointments but when Rachael Omamo is appointed to be a cabinet secretary, she is rewarded by verbal soubriquet from the Luo nation.
The government of the day is being accused of leaving the Luos out of government but when Prof Colleta Suda is denied an opportunity to run for the Migori senatorial seat by ODM; then later appointed to government, she immediately loses her “Luoship†and becomes a lesser Luo. This is twisted logic my friends.
You can’t rebuke what you practice. This is what I call hypocrisy. It is high time you reengineer your style of politics. We need to be sincere with ourselves. The loutish attitude of know it all won’t help. Listen to me Luo nation, you can’t grieve for heroes killed by the bullet yet you celebrate your efforts of having successfully wretched the life of your own leaders. It just doesn’t make sense.
