The thing is, Uhuru was born in comfort, he wore proper shoes and socks and was driven to school under tight security. Right from class one. He has never known poverty in his life – he’s got no clue what it means to be hungry- that people actually do go without a meal, kids have jiggers and run to school bare feet – if they are lucky squeeze sharing a one desk. We have children literally learning under tree shades by teachers with rationed chalks for writing and teaching.
For Uhuru, it is difficult to convince him that children need a full tummy, pencils and exercise books – qualified teachers with textbooks and resources to do their job.
Why Uhuru is bent on giving class one laptops when some of our university students only make use of a computer in an internet café is beyond me. I can tell Uhuru quite clearly that this idea is plain stupid. I mean it is utter nonsense! Uhuru must stop thinking that every little child in Kenya was born in Statehouse….
What our schools need are decent classrooms. Libraries, fresh drinking water in EVERY school and basics for kids to learn to write and read.
And for every Secondary/High school, computer labs to facilitate and the curriculum changed to accommodate IT … and needless to say, our Universities must be equipped to reflect their status as institutions of higher learning.
If Uhuru Kenya doesn’t make a U-turn on this, he’d be acting against many of his own followers – in any case there are not many occasions when the electorate asks their president however illegitimate, to make a U-turn on their election pledges. Imagine installing a modern toilet in the village without the plumbing system!
