For a long time, the Kenyan embassy in the US had been telling Kenyans in the diaspora that they can now issue IDs. Jubilee has always bragged to the Diaspora that they can now get their national IDs without having to travel to Kenya.
And so on Saturday this weekend, the Kenyan Embassy in DC promised to attend and issue IDs during a “diaspora investment summit†hosted by Chase Bank Kenya, together with organizers of what has famously come to be known as Queen’s night.
I lost my ID to wallet thieves during my last visit to Kenya and haven’t been able to complete purchase deals in Kenya. And so I travelled from Seattle, Wa, to Kansas City for this event, hoping that Uhuru’s leadership was spreading its tentacles to be felt in the diaporah.
Well, after waiting for hrs, and being told that they are on the way only one low ranking official of the embassy, a Mr. Mugo showed up towards the end of the ceremony, at 4pm(after unsuspecting Kenyans had waited since morning). As his arrival was being recognized, I looked at him hoping to see briefcases carrying ID paperwork, and so on, but he was barehanded.
Instead, he rose up to offer a too undiplomatic “apology†for the evil that the Kenyan embassy and the Jubilee government had committed unto the Uhuru subjects who live in the diaspora. How could they do this to me. I work at a Walmart and, earning minimum wage, which I supplement with a nursing home job and yet I spent 600 dollars for this initiative only to be disappointed?
It turns out that the Uhuru/Ruto diaspora ID initiative was all hogwash just like the laptop story or rather the DC office is just too tribal and incompetent to effect anything meaningful(Can someone show me a truly genuine initiative that Jubilee has implemented thus far). Zero. They have killed some of Kibaki/Raila projects, while continuing with some of those.
Kenyans who had come to the event with the hope of having their expired passports renewed/ and getting their kids American born kids dual citizenships, and IDs issued as promised were very disappointed. Some called in at work, others cancelled their appointments, and still others spent a lot of dollars to organize for daycare. Yet they hustle in nursing homes and driving cabs and so on to make ends meet.
95% of us who attended were TNA supporters who hoped to reap heavily from a government they love. However, we were disappointed that a digital government I travelled to Kenya to vote for and inaugurate isn’t about Kusema na kutenda, but that they reward laziness, not innovation. Look at the staff ethnic composition in this link http://kenyaembassy.com/staffsections.html , and jijazie mwenyewe.
And now that the rat eating Njeru Githae is heade to Washington to replace Ms Jean Kamau (who is deputized by Colonel Cyprian Muchiri, helped by Robert Kung’u and Mugo, and a few Kalenjin, is headed to DC, it’s my hope that he will clean up this place and give us a team that is the face of Kenya.
However this should not be misconstrued that I don’t love the president and TNA. No, I would still vote for Uhuru any time coz I cant stand Odinga. No way. All I want him to do is fix the mess in government and Foreign Service. That’s all.
