Tomorrow, all the roads will be leading to and out of Nyayo Stadium, the mock venue where Jamuhuri Day will be celebrated. The fact that all the routes heading to the venue will be militarily cordoned off confirms that there is nothing to celebrate after all. I always edify Kenyans that celebration has little or nothing to do with the celebrants.
Celebration is about the well-wishers who gladly turn up to share in the ecstasy of the moment. Already as I opine here, there are handpicked or rented guests who have already been ensconced in the ambience of Nyayo Stadium. Jamuhuri day must not be a day for the current incumbency at the helm of affairs, but a day Kenyans from every nook and cranny ought to celebrate.
President Kenyatta will be presiding over the function. He will be celebrating the independence that the comrades died fighting for. The same independence that was delivered to his father in a golden silver platter by Jaramogi Oginga Odinga et al. Kenyatta knew nothing about fighting for independence.
Nonetheless, the real Kenyans who might have loved to mark Jamuhuri Day will not be in Nyayo Stadium. The menacing police presence will scare the hell out of their poor egos because they are not invited. They are not supposed to be invited because it is their occasion. After all, there is nothing to celebrate or smile about and Kenyans know it.
The heavy security presence and the sophisticated jetfighters surrounding the celebration venue to protect the President when he enters with his amoured vehicle will also puts a lie to whatever set to be celebrated. There is absolutely nothing to celebrate and everybody knows that. Sincerely, how can we be celebrating when more than 50 Kenyans in a bus are hijacked and slaughtered by Al-Shabaab in the basis of their religion?
What is there to smile about when thirty something miners are ambushed in their place of work and butchered? What are we celebrating when hoodlums raid a town, hold inhabitants hostage and fires a fusillade of bullets at them killing more than 80 people? What are we celebrating when terrorists enter our country at their pleasure, hijacks a mall and brings the entire country to a standstill?
What is the meaning of democracy without justice? What is there to celebrate when the corruptionists who have stolen this nation blind are perennially awarded as overlords to instigate plunder? What is there to celebrate when socio-political malaise is founded in kleptocracy? What is there to celebrate when my country is ranked position 15 worldwide in the Failed States Index? What are going to celebrate when the terrorists have outbraved our defense forces? Why do we take this lie too far? THERE IS NOTHING CELEBRATE ABOU
