Nairobi gubernatorial is one of the vehemently contested seat in the country. According to political pundits, governor Kidero’s performance is below average unlike what was anticipated of him. The stinging question is remains, if the man who supposedly was a Moses has failed, who will save Nairobi in 2017?
For now, let us not talk about the Jubilee or (JAP-anese) as they have rechristened themselves because since independence, Nairobi has never voted for the government of the day. Instead, we will focus on ODM which – will obviously produce a governor. Now that Kidero has failed, who is a suitable candidate to replace him? When I look around, there is none – especially now that Bishop Margaret Wanjiru (BMW) has stopped pretending and reverted to her ancestral position.
ODM cannot give us a another son or daughter from Nyanza candidate for Nairobi gubernatorial. By so doing, Raila will be selfish. Therefore, the cards are stacked against candidates from Nyanza. The only candidate whose cards are stacked in his favor is Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Hon. Simba Arati.
If ODM gives us Arati – who I am informed has so far performed well with his CDF – they will capture the seat for the following reasons. As far as political steadfastness is concerned, Arati remains the springiest politician in CORD. Of course, if you choose to take exception to my observation and quarrel with my sentiment, you are welcome to do so.
Going by our usual tribal antics, Arati comes from Kisii Nyanza and all the Nyanza votes in Nairobi will be casted in one basket in his favor. Just recently, I spoke with a powerful but dirty Jubilee politician eying the Kabete parliamentary seat and he confirmed that the president wants his ‘OWN’ man in Nairobi.
Luhyias and other Westerners will not vote for Uhuru’s ‘OWN’ man – a Kikuyu I suppose – given the adjective Musalia Mudavadi was called rewarded a serious adjective towards the 2013 polls. Majority of them will vote for Arati the same way they voted for him at the constituency level where he led with 92,000 plus votes against his closest competitor Mr. Magelo (a Luhyia) who garnered less than 4000 votes.
Kamba on the other hand, can only vote for a Jubilee candidate if that candidate is none other than Mike Sonko. Nonetheless, Sonko and his childish unwavering theatrics can only be a senator and not at the helm of a seat as sensitive as the governorship.
In short, Kikuyu will rally around their own candidate as usual and the rest of Kenyans will rally behind the opposition candidate – only if he is not from Luo Nyanza. That way, Arati will outmatch his opponent and start deifying the historical atrocities committed at City Hall.
