Hon Mohammed: ODM is NOT the opposition party but the alternative party

ODM is NOT the opposition party but the alternative party.

ODM has twice been voted in to lead our country. This tag of ODM being an ‘opposition’ party is an old mischaracterization of our party. Had our democracy been working, with all institutions supporting nothing but the truest will and expression of the people, the party and coalition which currently runs our country wouldn’t be in charge. It was democratically voted out.

It took the hiding of evidence, the partisanship of the electoral commission and the bullying by the press, religious organizations and law enforcement to force it on us all. We are not surprised in how it has evolved, for we opposed it for the very reasons: corruption, exclusion, disregard of the rule of law, willful weakening of governance institutions followed by systemic individualization of state power in one person, having unfettered power and authority so close to those of God. In the end, nothing but dictatorship and tyranny. Recently, President Obama said people should learn their history.

If you know the history of this country well, you know there are people who can steal billions without twinkling. It is their ‘natural state’ to pilfer ‘national resources’. From history, we know whom we can’t trust with our wild animals. From history, we could have predicted that it doesn’t matter if billions are embezzled by ministries so long as the paper trail can be hidden.

I urge you to watch again, or read again, President Obama’s speech while here. Back to ODM…while we are the good people who accept to ‘let go’ for the sake of peace and prosperity of our nation, it seems people, both local and international, forget how easily this country can plunge. In future; there may not be ODM or CORD or Hon. Raila Odinga to turn the other cheek. People should not forget the reasons why peace has been kept this long here.

The gap between opportunity and prosperity is widening. We need to close it!
