It is high time leaders MUST respect the President of the Republic of Kenya, His Excellency Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta. Our president has been working without bias and has focused his energies in uniting Kenyans irrespective of their religious, political or ethnic affiliation. He has visited every part of this country and brought leaders together.
As Jubilee Government, we promised to deliver to Kenyans and we have always worked tirelessly to achieve that and not cheap divisive and manipulative politics that doesn’t benefit the common mwananchi. As the Senator for Nairobi City County, I will not sit back and watch leaders such as Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, whom I respect so much to play cheap politics and mislead the people of Mombasa.
We appreciate the people of Mombasa and as Jubilee leadership, we promised to listen to their plea as we have always done and worked together to finding long lasting solutions to the challenges that they face. Kenyans elected Jubilee because they believed in our leadership and what they expect is development in their regions, they need to see their standard of living improved and not bitter confrontation that has no meaning.
Chapter 9, Article 131(1)(e) of the constitution States that the president is the symbol of national unity. I cannot therefore sit back and watch people acting as if they’re more important than a democratically elected President when they are clearly only out to blackmail, embarrass and intimidate the president in public. Of course, people can disagree with the President on policy issues but, why can’t the opposition respect the Office of the Presidency?
Personally, I have great respect for Cord leaders Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula, and at no time will I insult or blackmail them. I also expect them to respect Jubilee leadership. Did Governor Joho have to confront the President at a public function? Wasn’t there a better time and place where he could raise such issues of allegedly being snubbed by the President? No, fellow Kenyans, let us respect the Presidency.
I urge the opposition to respect the President and his entire administration as it implements its manifesto and wait patiently for 2017 polls then we can all decide on which coalition to join.
