My attention has been drawn to the ethnically chauvinistic utterances that were recently made by the manner less, tribalistic, uncouth, chauvinistic and barbaric Ferdinand Waititu.
Even though he claims to possess a degree in business from a college in India, the colorless but combative MP who struggles with English would pass for a semi-illiterate.
It could be that he did his degree in Gujarati, but even if that were the case, any degree in whichever language is intended to grow your reasoning. It should help you develop an intellect and thinking capacity that is superior to the average person. Etiquette demands that if you are educated, act like one.
A reliable source who was in India around the same time the dis- honorable Waititu was supposedly pursuing his education says that he was not a serious student and even to date his competency is in question given that the dude cannot sustain a debate in the August House, raising questions about the worth of the paper that bears his name as a graduate. The validity of the degree is a story for another day!
Waititu’s statement is driven by his disdain of the character and composition of Nairobi as a cosmopolitan county.
Waititu- the preferred TNA gubernatorial candidate for Nairobi in the March 2013 elections- reliable sources say he has been tasked by some top political operatives to make statements that are intended to instill fear and chills down the spines of non TNA supporters in Nairobi.
The jury is out, opinion polls show that ODM stands to win a majority of the seats in Nairobi including Dagoretti where the demographics are shifting considerably in favor of the orange party.
Waititu’s allegations are just part of wider scheme by some elites associated with his party to make Nairobi a monolithic TNA zone in the run up to the next elections. Also related to this plan, is Rachel Shebesh’s warming up to TNA.
Part of the reason she has been hesitating to jump ship is her knowledge that opinion on the ground favor ODM. She is extracting assurances of nomination to bunge by TNA in the likely event that she fails to secure a win as a Nairobi women representative.
Mrs. Shebesh has realized that on a TNA ticket she might not make it, however if they (TNA) can guarantee her a nomination slot like ODM did in the run-up to the last elections, why not?
Nomination is her surest bet to get back to parliament, like she did in 2007 despite her dismal performance during the ODM nominations.
However despite ODM’s advantage, a source revealed that, she is being convinced by the TNA wheeler dealers, that even though the demographics favor ODM, TNA has a watertight plan intended to transform Nairobi into a TNA stronghold
Those privy to the discussions, intimate that the strategy hinged on the engineering of an Urban to Rural migration through scaremongering statements by hawkish and average literate politicians like Waititu.
Such a move will ensure TNA support proportion in Nairobi rises to 60%. However, a 55% would be a more reasonable target.
To defeat ODM in Nairobi one must reduce its support during the Election Day. The initial plan was to have other parties like UDF field candidates in Nairobi, but that cannot work as their support combined does not go beyond 5% in Nairobi.
The only last resort available is the sort of desperate gymnastics like those Waititu- the leader of the militant wing of his party is performing. We expect to encounter such type of statements in the mainstream media, targeting the 61% of Nairobi’s ODM supporters.
Nairobians, don’t fall to their machinations. Stay peaceful like our leader, the lover of peace RAO has always preached. Jesus said if they slap one of your cheeks, turn them the other. The 4th President of our beloved republic believes in having the patience and courage to exercise restraint even in the face of adversity.
The plan, it appears, had to be implemented starting in November this year, but it had to be fast-tracked, following TNA’s impressive performance of the otherwise ODM MP elect in Kajiado who secured a win on account of promises that he could fly the flag once elected by taking the late Saitoti’s internal security- this ended up to be a white lie, Sakuda is warming the backbench seat in parliament with Saitoti’s close ally Hon. Konchella.
Waititu’s fear is that TNA support in Nairobi is only 40% while ODM’s has a massive 56% support base, with the rest of the parties sharing 4%. TNA inherited the DP support base component of PNU support in Nairobi. It is still struggling to consolidate the other constituent parties of PNU.
According to reliable sources, the wheeler dealers close to TNA are of the thinking that instilling fear on ODM supporters in the few months preceding the next elections would scare some of them into fleeing the city.
Nairobi is too important to be left in the hands of Waititu and his ilk, whose intention is (like the American Indians were driven from their farmlands by the Anglo-Saxons so they could grab their land) to drive Maasais farther away from the city so their land can fall prey to the speculators, who have so far exhausted every single space available in our good city. They want Maasais to stay in far- flung places like Loitokitok.
All the cities of East, Central and Southern Africa look up to us. And if we are looking at continuing to be a model of prosperity and stability in the region, Waititu would be so gigantic a chunk of meat to be rammed down our throats by a cabal of partisan stalwarts who don’t mean well for Kenyans.
The calls for the Nairobi’s public enemy number one’s arrest are just a ploy to hoodwink Kenyans.
It will most likely end up in a clearance just like the case of Hon. Mwakwere despite overwhelming evidence of bigotry by Ruto’s supposed running mate, turns out Makwere is alight weight who could not deliver a single URP civic seat in his backyard in the just concluded by election.
Infact it’s only the DPP and Metito- themselves ethnic Maasais- who are pushing hard for his arrest.
However the rest of the half government office holders are not enthusiastic, and if you can remember the remarks were made in the presence of Embakasi OCPD who did not take any steps to arrest the Assistant Minister.
It is therefore my solemn call to Nairobians to watch and listen carefully to any hate speeches and euphemisms meant to cause fear and subsequently Urban to Rural migration.
Exercise restraint, and make sure that you don’t get intimidated. Stay united and peaceful, because we are all Kenyans and Nairobians regardless of race and ethnicity.
The Nyayo philosophy of Peace, Love and Unity used to sound hogwash those days, but it’s never made sense like these trying times. Love for one another is what will make people like Hon. Waititu to realize that theirs is an exercise in futility.
In The Unilateral Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson- the author – talks about humanity having certain inalienable rights. Rights that – Waititu despite his ethnic supremacy and belief that Nairobi should not be a cosmopolitan city- cannot be taken away.
At its core are rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Most world constitutions borrow from that philosophy and certainly Kenya’s current constitution is anchored in those beliefs.
The reckless and rogue Waititu needs to know that no-one has a right to take away the happiness of any other Kenyan. No-one has the right to get in the between a Maasai watchman and his liberty. Sanctity of life and harmonious existence among Kenyans is guaranteed in Kenya’s constitution, and Waititu cannot purport to usurp that.
